This row of Areca Palms (Dypsis
lutescens) was one of the first areas
we completed as it gives some much-needed privacy to the client's back
yard and lanai.
This is the side yard showing the
newly-installed Royal Palms (Roystonea regia)
and the side planter
shown in an earlier picture. The
client wanted there to be enough room to drive a car into the backyard
through this gap. No problem!
Notice all the colors visible in this picture- green, pink, orange,
purple,
white, brown, gray, etc.
These two Traveler's Palms (Ravenala
madagascariensis) were installed to
provide some more privacy for the lanai. Their overall flat fan
shape makes an excellent natural wall. To the right of them you
can see a Dioon Cycad (Dioon spinulosum)
starting to take root. Dioon cycads are from Mexico and do not get
the asian scale problems that the more common Sago Palms (Cycas
revoluta) do.
One of our personal favorites is the Foxy
Lady Palm (Wodyetia x Veitchia).
This is a very fast-growing hybrid that is rarely seen in landscaping.
It's weeping leaflets and whitish trunk create an elegant look that is
rarely seen in landscaping. To the left of the palm is an
Aechmea 'Rick' bromeliad and to the
right is an Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens).
