Acanthostachys
This is a very rare group of bromeliads that don't look like bromeliads at all!  The bloom is unique in that it emerges from the middle of one of the leaves.  The bloom is small and yellow.  This bromeliad has a "hanging" habit and must be grown in a hanging basket or be allowed to droop over a waterfall or terrace.

Acanthostachys strobilacea
HS; hanging leaves to 1.5' long
