Aechmea 'Alvarez' (variegated Aec. ludemanniana)
Full sun to shade; Mature Size: 20in H x 24in W
This plant reportedly takes full sun, but we prefer to give it a little bit of protection.  It's red leaves are hard to beat and it doesn't get overly large making it ideal for smaller planters.  The bloom is a small cluster of white flower buds with purple flowers on the tips- it lasts for a couple months.

*NEW*Aechmea ampla
Full sun to shade; Mature Size: 30in H x 24in W
This is a fairly rare collector's bromeliad.  It grows in full sun in very dry conditions.  The leaves seem to get more red when the plant is stressed out.  The tips of the leaves are pointy, so watch out!

Aechmea 'Black on Black'

Aechmea blanchetiana
Full sun to filtered sun; Mature Size: 36in H x 36in W
A staple in landscaping for several years now, this bromeliad is probably one of the most common in the world.  It produces a large orange bloom that lasts 3-4 months and is one of the few bromeliads to adapt to full sun, even in South Florida and Texas.

*NEW* Aechmea blanchetiana 'Orange Aid'*
Full sun to filtered sun; Mature Size: 36in H x 36in W
Similar to the standard Aec. blanchetiana, this one has a deeper orange color and is able to maintain it even in filtered or half-day sun!  The leaves are usually about 4-5 inches wide and tend to bend downward.  *Limited*

*NEW* Aechmea blanchetiana 'Raspberry'
Half-day sun; Mature Size: 36in H x 36in W
Another cultivar of the common Aec. blanchetiana, this one also maintains deep orange leaves but needs a full sun position to maintain the color.  The leaves are more slender and tend to be stiff and upright.

Aechmea blanchetiana 'Rainbow'
Full to half-day sun; Mature Size: 36in H x 40in W
This is a neat cultivar that maintains faint stripes in its leaves.  It becomes quite orange in full sun and tends to have a nice, neat rosette.  It produces prolific suckers (pups).

Aechmea blanchetiana 'Rubra'
Half-day sun; Mature Size: 36in H x 36in W
Probably the darkest red of all of our cultivars, this is a hybrid possibly with some Aec. mulfordii or Aec. rubens blood in it.  It needs 1/2 day sun in order to maintain its stark color which it develops at a young age.
