If you're not
sure what to start with, below are some of our more popular and
easy-to-grow bromeliads.
  
Aechmea "Little Harv" SS; 3'H x 2'W
This is a
silver-leafed hybrid that produces a showy pink flower that lasts 3
months or more. It is fairly drought tolerant and will grow in sun
or shade. 
Ananas
lucida variegata
(spineless) FS or HS; 2'H x 1'W
From the Hawaiian islands, the
vivid maroon color on this bromeliad glows in full sun. It has
no spines, making it easy to work around and produces lots of pups
(offsets). It's bloom is a small pink pineapple!
 
Hohenbergia castellanosii SS; 2'H x 1'W
This is a newer introduction
which is different from other bromeliads in that it has very wide yellow-green
leaves with blood-red tips. It should perform well in dryer climates.
Neoregelia 'Fireball' FS; 6"H x 6"W
The Fireball Bromeliad
is one of the most common, but also one of the most versatile. It
clumps readily and can be grown on logs, trees, rocks, or in the ground.  
Neoregelia MacWilliamsii SS; 1'H x 1'W
This is a larger Neo
that also clumps readily and produces a nice show of red in the center
when mature. It is completely spineless and can handle full sun.  
Neoregelia 'Petra' SS; 6"H x 1'W
The color on this Neo has been
described as a "coral pink". Beautiful!... enough said.
Portea petropolitana SS; 3'W x 3'H
Known for it's
incredible blooms
(pink and blue), Portea's have a flower
that's color will last several months. These grow well indoors too, just
spray the leaves with water every once and a while.
