West Gulf, Sanibel

The owner of this property came to us for help.  Her previous landscaper had installed a lot of "leafy" plants such as ginger and other natives.  Since her yard has no irrigation, all of them died.  We recommended using bromeliads, air plants, and other native palms which require no irrigation, fertilizer, or maintenance.  Needless to say, she is extremely pleased with the  the end result.

Front planter: Bromeliads, cycads, and flax lily as groundcover.

Right side of front planter: Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) in front      Left side of front planter: Purple bromeliad (Aechmea 'Malva'),
with bromeliads and trees behind.                                                   green bromeliad with red center (Neoregelia McWilliamsii),
green bromeliad with purple leaf undersides (Nidularum
'Midnight'), silver bromeliad in top center (Aechmea 'Little
Harv'), yellowish bromeliad on right (Aechmea blanchetiana
'Lemon'), and a few Blueberry Flax Lily (Dianella
                                                                                                      tasmanica) in between.

Top view of same planter: Bromeliads and Flax Lily with a Florida native Coontie (Zamia pumila) in upper right corner.

Front planter: Low ground view of various plants... lots of color and different leaf types.  Remember, all of these will live without any supplemental irrigation, fertilizer, pest control, or trimming.
