Wodyetia bifurcata x Veitchia johannis
Common Name: Wodyetia bifurcata x Veitchia johannis
Sun: Mostly full sun (can handle heavy shade as well)
Growth Rate: Very Fast
Fertilizer: Low
Water: Low to Moderate
Cold Tolerance: 25-30deg F
History: A new hybrid produced in limited numbers in 2024. Only a handful of seedlings have been available for sale.
Production: The seed parent is Wodyetia bifurcata and the pollen parent is a Veitchia johannis. This Veitchia parent is growing in a botanical garden and has good pedigree so we are confident that it is a pure V. johannis and no seedlings came up variegated.
Benefits: All green Foxy Ladies handle sun much better. The leaflets are heavily-drooping and rarely bifurcate (split). This should be the largest, most beautiful Foxy Lady Hybrid due to its V. johannis father because V. johannis is generally regarded to be the most robust and tallest-growing in the genus.
Identification: Seedlings have first leaves (eophylls) that are very broad and very thin. Also, there are generally no variegated seedlings due to the pure blood of the Veitchia johannis father (Veitchia in general tend to hybridize readily in South Florida so it is difficult to grow a pure one from seed from open-pollenated mother plants).
